The sixth chakra is the Third Eye Chakra. It’s located right between your eyes, it’s color is indigo. It is related to the pineal gland which is located in this area. The pineal gland helps to regulate sleep cycles and internal rhythms. It’s the energy center associated with clairvoyance – being able to “see” what can’t be seen. Sometimes referred to as the “sixth sense” chakra. Intuition. People often think of this chakra when they think of psychics and mediums. And while it may be more open and active with people gifted with psychic ability, we all have it and it is available to all of us.
What it governs/controls: There are five broad “psychic” abilities. Clairvoyance ( clear seeing), clairaudience (clear hearing), clairsentience (clear sensing or feeling), claircognizance (clear knowing), clairgustance (clear smelling). The Third Eye Chakra specifically deals with clairvoyance – or being able to “see.” And not just see with your eyes. It’s an internal seeing, seeing something in your mind’s eye, so to speak. While all the chakras are connected in some way with each other, I think the Third Eye and the Solar Plexus Chakra share a special bond. The Solar Plexus gives us that “gut feeling,” that feeling we just felt and “knew” somehow. Which is a lot like the Third Eye. While the Solar Plexus might be more in tune with clairsentience or claircognizance, it’s the common “knowing” that they both share.
When it is not in balance: You may be a bit prone to a fantasy-like existence. You aren’t able to see things clearly and for what they are. Not being “aware.” Physical manifestations of this chakra being out of balance can include vision problems, dizziness, nausea (from the dizziness). Headaches. A sense of being overwhelmed or having delusions or hallucinations can also be present.
How to get it in balance: Grounding techniques and being outside. These work for any of the chakras. Meditation. A good meditation or exercise to try is to find a quiet place, get a piece of paper and a pen, sit down and take a few slow, deep cleansing breaths. Try to clear your mind as best you can and to be “open.” Ask your spirit guides, angels, higher self, goddess (whoever you work with or identify with) to show you what it is you need to know. You can pose a question or area you want some guidance with. Let’s say, what can I do to strengthen the relationship with my significant other. Then ask to be shown the answer. The tricky part is being open and receptive to whatever it is you might see, because it might not make sense. Keep in mind that you aren’t going to be seeing things as you would on a movie screen. You might, but for most people it doesn’t present that way. They are images and visions in your “mind’s eye.”
Stones/crystals to carry or use: Blue Kyanite, Labradorite, Tanzanite, Moldavite, Moonstone. And some of the typical “blue and purple” stones are also good ones to work with for this chakra – lapis lazuli, azurite, amethyst. If you’re laying down, you can actually position one of these stones on the area between your eye brows to meditate with. You can also place a stone there, and keep one in each hand. You can carry them with you in a pocket, in your purse or keep in a desk drawer. Many of these stones (if not all of them) are also found in jewelry and can range from affordable and inexpensive to luxurious splurges. Wearing indigo (or purple and/or blue) are also good easy ways to encourage this chakra to be open and balanced.
I work with this chakra a lot – it helps with psychic work and intuition all around. But it’s good for everybody to keep open and balanced as much as possible. We are constantly being given messages and information from our spirit guides and angels and higher selves. It’s our job to be receptive to it and to use it to help ourselves.
A clear channel, a clear view, things I see, things I know, keep me open so I can see, all the messages you have for me…
