Base Chakra – Strong Roots

Let’s talk chakras.  Energy wheels located in and around your body.  Typically, we think of seven. But there are actually many more.  The Base Chakra (also sometimes called the Root Chakra) is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the color red.

What it governs/controls: Your very basic needs, your sense of basic security.  Think food, water, clothing, shelter. Also your basic emotional needs. Love, fear, feeling safe.

When it is not in balance: Physical problems in this area.  And in the areas of your life that control what makes you physically stable.  Issues with bladder, colon, elimination and your legs and feet.   On a more emotional level, you may experience anxiety and nightmares.

How to get it in balance: Grounding techniques. I spoke about that in an earlier entry here. Go outside and stand in the earth with bare feet, on grass.  Or put your hands/fingers in the dirt of a potted plant if the weather doesn’t permit you going outside with bare feet.  Exercise, ideally outside, is a wonderful grounding technique.  It actually helps to balance and align all the chakras.

Stones/crystals to carry or use:  Stones that are red and also black.  Red Jasper, Garnet, Bloodstone, Black Tourmaline, Obsidian, Black Onyx.  Carry in your pocket, keep beside your bed, meditate while holding them.   You can also wear red clothing. Red underwear may work well, too.

People often forget the first three chakras (Base, Sacral and Solar Plexus) because they aren’t the ones we think of when we think of intuition and psychic development. But they are just as important, if not more.  If the roots of a tree aren’t strong, then the tree won’t grow and produce branches and leaves.

I am bound to the ground, feel my roots reaching down, Spirit Guides hear my plea, please ground and protect me…
